DeleteDo you have a phone number or email address for them?
DeleteHi there. They seem to do their communication mostly via email. They can be reached at goatnhammer@gmail.com. Cheers!
Deletehello i was thinking of enrolling here in the future if you can, may you add a phone number? that is if you have one, i would love to call them up and @Terran Marks if you visited goat n forge, do they have a actual like highschool level school or if it is just for a college level???
DeleteHi there! I'm so glad you're interested. Unfortunately, they only have an email address listed. A second option is to contact them through their Facebook page.
DeleteAs for high school vs. college level classes, I recommend taking a look at their website. The classes are broken down by skill level rather than academics.
Let me know if you have more questions.
Thanks!
Terran

ReplyDeleteHi Gavin. I'm not aware of any schools down that way, but you could try contacting Trenton Tye of Calhoun County. This link is for a recent article on him relating to the show "Forged In Fire": http://www.walb.com/story/29559162/south-georgia-blacksmith-featured-on-history-channel
DeleteHope that helps!

DeleteAny classes around Savannah, GA?
ReplyDeleteAs of right now there aren't any listings specific to Savannah, but you could try two things:
Delete1. Look at the Southeast Georgia Blacksmiths community page:
http://southgablacksmiths.ning.com/
2. Talk to the staff at the American College of Building Arts up in Charleston, SC. They might have some resources for you. Their website is:
buildingartscollege.us
Are there any classes or persons willing to come or open up their forge for a bit for some military folk to come and attend? There are a few of us that would love to learn basics and how to create our own forge so that eventually we may move up in difficulty, but we would like a strong foundation to work upon. Can't expect to start at highest caliber of work and we want to put in the work, but lack a teacher and youtube only goes so far.
ReplyDeleteHello Mr. Jaynes-
DeleteThanks for your questions. Depending on where you are in the state, Goat N Hammer would be worth looking into. They have open forge sessions weekly and offer step-by-step classes as well.

Anything in North West georgia, near Rome?
ReplyDeleteHi. Interested in some intro to beginner smithing classes in west GA area, Carrollton Carroll county areas if possible.
ReplyDeletePlease consider adding the Spruill Arts Center, located in Dunwoody (Atlanta area) in Georgia. I have been taking some classes with John Scroggin from the Spruill Arts Center. His knowledge, ability & willingness to teach are top notch.
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I just did our first blacksmithing lesson with Wind Chapman of Flute's Forge in Dahlonaga, GA and he is absolutely fantastic! He can give very technical details of the metal chemistry, provides great history lessons while you learn, and even throws in some great myths and legends about blacksmiths and farriers along the way. Only 75 minutes drive from Atlanta, plus you get to see the north Georgia natural scenery along the way. Highly recommended!
